Experimenting with vintage camera lenses
Share
Several years ago I had some downtime in the studio and started messing around with a pile of shells that I had accumulated during many beach visits. I paired my very first lens, a Pentax 50mm that I purchased in 1980, with my latest-release Sony high resolution camera. I found that if I created more distance between the lens and the sensor I could create otherworldly macro images. I experimented with extension barrels to gain the gap and also scoured flea markets to find vintage Nikon and other lenses at different focal lengths to see what they could do.
I know, way too much photo-geek talk. But it was a lot of fun. These initial shell pictures make up a large part of my Coastal Art Collection, and I still like them a lot. I don't often say that about my work. The Collection is nicely rounded out with the growing number of location photographs. I hope you enjoy the work.
